The Hydroponic Research System
A one-bucket deep water culture study and the instruments needed to describe its root environment.
Founding edition · November 2026 · Part 04 of 05

The planned first study uses one bucket from a two-bucket VIVOSUN deep water culture kit. Associated equipment includes an APERA water-testing kit, a three-part General Hydroponics nutrient system, seedling plugs and leak-detection equipment.
OCR-LAB-001 is intentionally observational. With a single plant, no randomized comparison and no control group, its findings cannot establish that deep water culture is superior to other methods.
The root environment as a measurement problem
In a water-based system, the root environment is not described by nutrient brand alone. Relevant observations may include water temperature, acidity, electrical conductivity, visible root development, aeration-system status and water-level changes. Instrument capabilities and calibration must be confirmed before a measurement protocol is finalized.
Recordkeeping principles
Each reading should have a timestamp, unit, instrument identifier, measurement method and note of any adjustment made afterward. Missing readings should remain explicitly missing rather than being estimated and presented as observations.
Readiness is not yet established
The reservoir, aeration, leak detection and water-testing instruments were not all confirmed operational in the project record available for this article. This is an equipment and research-design overview, not a claim of a functioning or completed experiment.
